FORTHCOMING TITLES

This year promises to be one of Baronius’ busiest yet! With the Holy Father’s Motu Proprio enabling Catholics throughout the world the opportunity to experience the sacredness and beauty of every part of the Extraordinary form of the Roman Liturgy, the staff of Baronius Press feel blessed to be a small cog in this renewal of the sacred in the Extraordinary Form of the Liturgy.

Below you will find the major projects we are working on to release this year. Please feel free to email us with messages of support or suggestions, although bear in mind that because of our commitments, we may not be able to reply to all emails.

English-Latin Breviary
The Breviary project is now in the typesetting stage and will soon be ready for proofreading! In order to assist daily prayer life, we have decided to add some beautiful images similar to those adorning older Breviaries.

After the typesetting has been finished, the next major tasks will be the rigorous proofreading process. As we have been getting many offer of help with the proofreading, we hope that this task can be completed this year, although given our very limited resources (and hence staff) please join us in praying for its completion.

Divine Intimacy – the spiritual nourishment of millions
Baronius Press has recently acquired the exclusive rights to publish the Divine Intimacy in the English speaking world from the monastery of St. Joseph in Rome.

A book of meditations for each day of the year, the Divine Intimacy is encouraging and assisting Catholics from all walks of life in their spiritual journey to God. Often regarded as one of the most important books after the Bible and the Imitation of Christ. Fr. Gabriel (1893-1953) quotes from the Douay-Rheims Bible and the great Carmelite Saints such as St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. This book allows the reader to cover all the doctrine of spirituality in the course of the traditional liturgical year.

For those with problems praying, this is the book! Fr. Gabriel’s simple approach has helped literally millions of Catholics to develop a regular prayer life. It is with good reason that this book has been translated into all the major languages of the world and has sold millions of copies since it was first released. This is a book that you will use every day, year in year out!

"Sometimes in the spiritual life, we come to a halt because we insist on understanding and searching into God's plans for our soul. A faithful soul, on the other hand, does not linger to inquire about God's actions; even though not fully understanding them, it believes, following blindly, if necessary, the manifestation of His Will. This is pleasing to God who does not ask us to understand, but only to believe with all our strength." – Father Gabriel, OCD

Cardinal Sheehan’s Apologetics and Catholic Doctrine – The textbook that taught the Faith to millions of Catholics worldwide:
A classic high school text which was used to teach for more than four decades the Faith to generations of English speaking Catholics around the world. Unique in presenting the Faith in a clear, persuasive and understandable manner.

Since its demise in 1962 after selling nearly 500,000 copies, no other textbook in English has repeated Sheehan's successful presentation of the Faith. The new Baronius edition has been updated by Fr. Peter Joseph, of Wagga Wagga, Australia, and is fully endorsed by Cardinal Archbishop Pell.

Darkness Visible – a unique and Christian critique of Freemasonary
Have you ever wondered if Freemasonry and Christianity are compatible? Possibly you have been invited to join? What makes the rituals of the Masons so contentious, and why are they so secretive?

These were the questions that Walter Hannah, a Church of England vicar who later converted to the Catholic Faith, set out to answer over 50 years ago. By infiltrating and documenting Masonic rituals, for the first time ever, the rituals of the first 3 degrees were openly published in full in Darkness Visible.

As Stephen Knight, the famous author of The Brotherhood stated, [This work] alone deals conclusively with the matter of whether or not Masonry is a religion.

Douay Rheims-Clementine Vulgate – side by side in one easy to study volume
The Clementine Vulgate is the official Latin Bible of the Catholic Church, and the Douay-Rheims continues to be, one of the most widely available, reverent and accurate English translations of the Vulgate. For the first time ever the entire Douay Rheims is laid out side by side with the Clementine Vulgate, and is complete with all of Bishop Challoner’s notes.

Also included in this edition is the apocryphical books —the Third and Fourth Books of Esdras and the Prayer to the Manasses. This is the ideal study Bible for those wishing to study and compare the Holy Scriptures, and is also useful to become more familiar with liturgical latin.

The Knox Bible – One of the finest translations of the 20th Century
More than a century ago, Cardinal Newman agreed to prepare a new English translation of the Bible for Catholics, but died before starting the project. Fifty years later, Monsignor Ronald Knox took up and completed the task, and his marvellous translation is now recognised as one of the high water marks of pre-conciliar Catholicism.

A doctrinally sound and edifying translation that is highly recommended for all Catholics.

We also aim to release the following titles in 2009:

St. Thomas Aquinas’ Catena AureaOne of St. Thomas Aquinas' greatest works will soon be back in print.
All Catholics at one point or another have wished to understand more clearly a Biblical passage. Pope Urban IV commissioned St. Thomas to write the Catena Aurea in order that an orthodox patristic commentary on the Gospels was readily available to the academic public.
In the modern world, the Catena Aurea, written by one of the greatest minds of the Catholic church, is of immense use to priests writing homilies, in the private study of the Gospels, family reading, and is full of thought for those who are engaged in religious instruction. It is the perfect companion to study the Scriptures in detail and receive the wisdom of St. Thomas on particular passages.
